June's Earring Drop: The 'These Were Supposed to be Simple' Earrings

The last pair that I will be releasing tomorrow is a pair that I had intended to be very simple with not a lot of frill. No joke, I came into the studio with the intention of making a pair of gemstone stud earrings with nothing else.

As I sat down to work, it was like my hands were off doing something entirely different. "You can't just do something that simple," and before I knew it, I was going through my drawers finding new materials to work with and having fun putting together all these beads and granules.

I had even sworn off using gold because the market is so crazy right now, but no. This pair even has 18k gold granules and when I finished them, I was like, "wtf Caitlin?!" Haha! I like to have fun and surprise myself, can you tell?

Here's a glimpse at the earrings:

The blue that you see behind the gemstone (called rutilated quartz) is lapis lazuli that I crushed into a powder to add a bit of color. This is a trick that I like to use to gemstones that are otherwise too simple for my taste. The blue pops up in certain angles so if you didn't know about my process, you probably wouldn't notice the blue immediately.

That's it for today. Tomorrow (Friday June 25th), I will be releasing the new earrings. I will make them available at 7am MST sharp. Email subscribers will receive a 10% discount code that will be valid through Sunday. You can subscribe to my once-a-month email by clicking here.
