June's Earring Drop: Medieval Statement Earrings

This year for some reason, I just can't get enough of those Medieval illuminated manuscripts. I obviously did a whole series with my Illuminated Letters Pendants, but for this Earring Drop I wanted to recreate the covers of those books. You know, the ones that are made of gold and fancy gemstones? Here's an example from themorgan.com alongside what I designed/created:

For this earring, I used the marquis/eye shape that's on the book, but then I didn't wanted such mismatched bright colors. I wanted something very Springy/Summery, so I turned to my favorite Renaissance painter, Sandro Botticelli for color inspiration. He had a way with pastels combined with rich pine greens that I just love. The golds, the soft pinks, the rusty blues, the creamy whites, the endless shades of greens, he nailed it. Below is his most famous painting, "The Birth of Venus," which can be found at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.

Anyway, that's all for today. Thanks so much for reading and take care,

Caitlin
