Hello and welcome to Aguja y Clavo Jewelry. My name is Caitlin and I’m the maker and one-woman show behind everything you see here.
I started this business in 2016 after having lived abroad in Spain for three years. I was still in a bilingual mentality so I came up with the name Aguja y Clavo (ah-goo-ha//ee//claw-voh) which translates to needle and nail in Spanish. I went with this name because I specialize in beadwork and metalwork, but also because my mom is a quilter and my dad builds adobe houses and I wanted to honor them in some way.
There is a varied selection of jewelry on my website because as I began this business, I was also learning metalsmithing techniques. I’d select a historical theme, combine it with a newly-learned technique and come up with a collection. I’ve taken classes both locally (New Mexico) and abroad (Florence, Italy), and I’d get so excited, I’d come home and just create, create, create.
Since the start of the pandemic, I began teaching myself enamel. Enamel is a glass that comes in a fine powder or as a liquid form, and when heated, it fuses to the metal. I love this technique because I can paint with it. With some pieces, I can be more abstract and emulate one of my favorite artists, Georgia O’Keeffe, and celebrate the glory of the New Mexico landscapes. With other pieces, I am creating miniatures and adding lots of details, like in my upcoming Illuminated Letters series.
account is where I showcase my work and make announcements, and Pinterest is where I share my inspiration. You can create a private account on my website for easy checkout and to add pieces to your wishlist. If you have any questions, you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you so much for your interest in my work, I hope we can connect and that you find something special for yourself.
